As Legal Counsel, you will work closely with all areas of the business and take a collaborative approach to solving complex legal challenges. You will be expected to advise on compliance with financial services and payments regulations, interact with regulators and assist in the implementation of broader regulatory projects and product launches across the Checkout.com group.The successful candidate will be able to handle a busy workload with minimal supervision, demonstrating excellent critical judgment, quick thinking and agility. This is a great opportunity to work on a broad range of projects across multiple jurisdictions, learn new areas of law and play a key role in supporting the company’s rapid growth.You will be joining an expanding team in one of Europe's most valuable fintechs. Our mission is to be a legal team that exceeds expectations across the board, providing pragmatic and commercially focused advice, finding creative solutions to manage risk and becoming trusted advisers to our colleagues in the business.How You'll Make An Impact This role is based in London at our global head office and sits within the regulatory vertical of our Legal departmentSupport relationships with regulators on license-related matters, including potential de novo applicationsReview payments product structures, flows and terms to ensure compliance with legal requirementsAdvise on payments regulatory matters, including compliance with payments laws and related regulations across our different jurisdictionsAdvise on broader regulatory requirements applicable to payment services providers, including with respect to group regulatory change projectsAdvise the business on market expansion, researching and evaluating new territories and applying for new licenses or expanding the scope of existing licensesAdvise key business functions on new regulatory developments impacting our operations, products and contractual commitmentsConduct research on various multi-jurisdictional legal issuesSupport the company’s strategic projects and initiatives by providing creative, proactive and results-orientated advice What We Are Looking For Qualified solicitor/lawyer (3-7 PQE) with strong post-qualification experience either in-house or in private practiceStrong understanding of legal principles applicable to payments in the UK, including the payments ecosystem and payments regulatory and licensing strategy/execution, and to broader financial institutionsPrevious FinTech, payments, software, e-commerce and/or bank experience is desirable but not essentialExperience working in a start up or other fast-paced and dynamic environment is desirable but not essentialComfort with ambiguity, constant change, and a fast-paced cultureA practical, solutions-oriented focus to solving legal challengesExperience working internationally and on a variety of cross-border mattersExcellent time management skills and experience managing a diverse workload and competing stakeholder demandsAbility to work autonomously and collaboratively as needed, flexing the approach as the matter requiresStrong communication skills and the ability to articulate and explain complex legal issues clearly and conciselyEnthusiasm for new challenges and skilling up in different areas of lawAdditional InformationBring all of you to workWe create the conditions for high performers to thrive, through real ownership, fewer blockers, and work that makes a difference from day one.Here, you’ll move fast, take on meaningful challenges, and be recognized for the impact you deliver.
